The sweet fragrant scent of myrrh from the Holy Mountain filled the air today, as we stood around to honor and celebrate the life of my beloved kitty Aphrodite and to say goodbye.
We played an Orthodox hymn, read a beautiful poem aloud that our wonderful Vet sent in a card, and we listened to a Christian song my Mom wrote as we buried her and placed a beautiful flower arrangement above
I shared Aphrodite’s rescue story and spoke about her journey from a scared rescue kitten that was abandoned and covered in stickers, to her becoming a part of my family and the most loving, beautiful, graceful and gentle cat.
Aphrodite was loved and she taught me so much about how to patiently wait for love to be understood and returned. She was feral and was scared to death to love me on our very first day together, but as I held her in my arms while she departed from this life, I know with all my heart that she loved me on her last.
And I know she knew that I loved her.
Thank you God for Aphrodite. Every day you gave me with her was a gift.
Aphrodite died April 3, 2022.
